Fueling the creative economy of Indonesia, one story at a time

In order to thrive, creativity needs a local voice, and a global audience; and with half its population below thirty years of age, it is important to equip young Indonesians with skills that grow the country’s creative economy. Using YouTube as a platform, Google provides Indonesian artists and creators the opportunity to turn their passions into a profession, and share their culture with a worldwide audience. Google helps artists learn how to create quality content, provides access to world-class recording and editing technology, connects them to an international fan base, and encourages them to forge relationships with other creators, thereby building a highly collaborative and scalable creative ecosystem across Indonesia.

Helping storytellers find their voice

Creator Hub is an online destination for Indonesian artists, thinkers, and performers to hone their craft, learn new skills, and collaborate with other artists.

The hub is home to the YouTube Creator Academy - an online training channel where artists can learn how to create excellent content, grow their audience, and receive their hard-earned revenue.

The Creator Hub also offers the YouTube Creator Community, a platform which brings together all types of artists in order to give them access to a diverse range of knowledge, talents, and skills that they can leverage for their own work.

A space to create

In order to supplement online learning and fuel the development of creative content, Google launched YouTube Pop-Up Space -- a dynamic space that offers creators an opportunity to produce ambitious and experimental content using high-end sets, equipment, and crew. These creative spaces provide artists with top-notch, hands-on training in video production fundamentals and content strategies, as well as workshops focused on improving their presence across Google and YouTube. The offline format provides Indonesia’s top creative minds an invaluable opportunity to meet and collaborate with other members of the YouTube community, industry and media.

Creating connections

Google works closely with content creators to help them connect with their on- and offline fans. YouTube FanFest is an annual event that celebrates viewers and fans, and helps creators enhance their knowledge and skills in order to provide better quality content, and grow their fan base.

In 2016, FanFest drew 17,000 fans and 75 creators from all over Indonesia, 197 new and emerging creators, and 15 renowned YouTubers who spoke at the Creator Camp.

Inspiring positive social change through the power of video

YouTube Creators for Change is a global initiative that supports creators who are tackling social issues and promoting awareness, tolerance and empathy on their YouTube channels. We launched the Indonesia program with Impact Project: #1nDONEsia, a campaign to educate high school and university students on the importance of pluralism and the role of young people in strengthening diversity and resisting radicalism.

Inspiring positive social change through the power of video

At our 2017 kickoff event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Maarif Institute, and Cameo Project (our local Creators for Change Ambassador), we hosted 350 participants for two days of inspirational speakers and video production sessions on how to create positive social content. To continue the momentum, Maarif Institute and Cameo Project also conducted workshops for more than 2500 students in 10 cities across Indonesia, helping young content creators explore diverse perspectives and new ways to drive social change.
